why skin candy?

After struggling to get pregnant for 7 years I had In Vitro fertilization. I initially had two embryos that took, but I lost one. To recuperate I was told to rest in bed for 12 weeks. Being bedridden led to me jumping from 125 to 150 pounds. It was unexpected and my body reacted. I woke up one morning with purple lines around the top of my hips and the sides of my waist. I was surprised to learn they were the early stages of stretch marks. Knowing I had seven more months of my pregnancy I began to look into ways to prevent more stretch marks from forming and to learn how I could help with the inflammation I was experiencing due to the In Vitro drugs I was taking.

After researching different types of oils and butters I was amazed at the health benefits of cocoa butter, also known as theobroma oil. It is a pale yellow, pure, edible vegetable fat extracted from the cocoa bean.

cocoa butter

  • has a high concentration of antioxidant compounds, including oleic acid, palmitic acid and stearic acid. They help neutralize free radicals throughout the body, particularly the skin.
  • has a higher antioxidant concentration that even blueberries and other superfoods
  • promotes overall skin health — A, B1, B2, B3, C, E vitamins
  • provides a barrier for the skin that protects from outside agents and helps retain needed moisture
  • preliminary research indicates that cocoa mass polyphenol helps suppress excessive T-cell activity in the immune system, which could lead to possible treatment for immune system conditions (such as psoriasis)
  • cocoa butter is used to make chocolate. Scientists have linked the cocoa mass polyphenol in cocoa to reduced blood pressure and heart disease

I created Skin Candy and began to use it two times a day, on my entire body after I bathed. I put on 80 pounds through the course of my pregnancy, but I did not develop any new stretch marks, and the ones I had faded nicely. I continued to use the butter as a nightly ritual and stayed stretch-mark free through my second pregnancy as well.

In the past 16 years I have discovered many uses for Skin Candy. I love to melt it down and use it as a scalp and hair treatment. It’s great for dry cuticles, and as a lip balm.  The possibilities are really endless.

Clients love the silky feeling when I use it to massage their hands and feet. I always suggest using Skin Candy and then covering your feet with socks for an hour — your feet will feel soft and moisturized.
